In the U.S, nearly all arrested people are required to pay cash bail in order to be released from jail before trial, yet more than 3 in 5 inmates remain behind bars, unconvicted, because they cannot afford to pay.
Please join OSI-Baltimore for #unconvicted, a photographic exhibit which documents the plight of pretrial detainees, many of whom are locked up for weeks or months without being convicted of any crime because of the cash bail system, which penalizes the poor for their economic status.
At this opening reception, after seeing these incredible photos (see some here: http://www.pretrial.org/endcashbail/)and reading their subjects’ stories, we’ll hear from Cherise Fanno Burdeen, executive director of the Pretrial Justice Institute, and Tara Huffman, director of OSI-Baltimore’s Criminal and Juvenile Justice program about work being done to end the unjust cash bail system.
Light refreshments will be served.
