Now retired, Muriel Berkeley taught for most of her career: in elementary classrooms in North Hanover Township, New Jersey, in elementary and middle school classrooms in Baltimore City, and in undergraduate and graduate school classrooms at Goucher College, Towson State University and George Washington University. She was the founding president of the Baltimore Curriculum Project (BCP) which operates Baltimore City conversion charter schools that serve every family in their zoned neighborhoods. She retired from BCP in 2012. After retiring from BCP, Berkeley served on the Baltimore City Board of School Commissioners until she retired from that responsibility in December of 2019.
Berkeley earned a BA in Social Relations at Radcliffe College, Harvard University and a Ph.D. in Social Relations at the Johns Hopkins University.
