As one of the first OSI Community Fellows, Gayle Hafner developed Kinship Power Team, a mentoring project for kinship caregivers of foster children with disabilities. She joined the Maryland Disability Law Center in 2001 where she tirelessly supported better care and access for those in Maryland living with disabilities. Born in Hannibal MO, Hafner was diagnosed with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis when she was 4 and spent virtually her entire life in a wheelchair. Hafner died on March 22, 2014 of a heart attack during an operation.
