This week, 2002 Community Fellow, Jacqueline Robarge, was quoted in a Washington Post article about the contrast between resourcing treatment for white opiate addiction vs. criminalizing black drug users.
While recent attention and funding for fighting the opioid epidemic has been directed to rural and suburban communities, many urban areas continue to struggle, as they have for decades.
Said Robarge of the disparity, “It really is disingenuous if the resources are only going to be directed at the suburbs and the counties where, basically, the white folks are getting high.”
During her fellowship, Robarge founded Power Inside, which focuses on the health and safety of women, especially those who are incarcerated, formerly incarcerated, and survivors of violence and social marginalization.
