This morning OSI-Baltimore joined other local community groups, organizers, and students at Baltimore Polytechnic Institute (Poly) to launch Hidden Voices: Illuminating Baltimore’s Secrets, an innovative project based on artist Frank Warren’s PostSecret series that will encourage people to share their secrets on anonymous postcards.
Pat Bernstein, a local philanthropists who recently wrote a powerful op-ed in Baltimore Sun about her experiences working in Sandtown, spearheaded and introduced the project, along with J.C. Faulk, founder of Circle of Voices and a 2016 OSI Community Fellow, Jay Wolf Schlossberg-Cohen, an artist and 2003 OSI Fellow, and Evan Serpick, OSI’s director of strategic communications. Thread and Creative Alliance are also co-sponsors.
After the organizers introduced the project, students were invited to complete their own postcards, like the one above. These cards and others collected around the city will be shared at hiddenvoicesbaltimore.org and in public displays in an effort to promote deeper understanding of the lives of our neighbors.
