FORCE: Upsetting Rape Culture, an organization co-founded by 2015 OSI-Baltimore Community Fellow and current leadership council member, Hannah Brancato, will host two upcoming events as part of a series to bring attention to the criminalization of black women and transgender/gender non-conforming (TGNC) folks who are survivors of domestic or sexual violence. Saida Agostini, Chief Operation Officer for FORCE, organized the events.
This Thursday, May 18, FORCE will host a poetry action for Bresha Meadows, a 15-year-old black girl imprisoned for defending herself against her abusive father. The event begins at 7:30 pm at Red Emma’s.
On May 22nd, FORCE will co-sponsor #decriminalizesurvival, an online haiku open mi to uplift Bresha’s name as she goes to trial, along with other Black girls and TGNC survivors imprisoned for defending themselves.
Brancato’s fellowship project, Gather Together: a Survivor Support Network, works to better support survivors and transform cultural attitudes to prevent rape and abuse.
