The Choice Program at UMBC, an OSI-Baltimore grantee, has partnered with Starbucks on a new outlet near Johns Hopkins Hospital in East Baltimore that features an “Opportunity Café,” an in-store job training program with a classroom built right into the coffee shop.
The idea is to teach people in the surrounding East Baltimore community basic life and work skills. OSI-Baltimore supported the Choice program’s previous kiosk and cafe job training programs, which led to the new partnership. Choice is a non-profit dedicated to serving youth by connecting them to positive choices throughout Maryland. LaMar Davis, director of the Choice Program, is also a member of OSI-Baltimore’s Leadership Council.
