On April 30th from 7-10pm, the Blank Page Project will host the opening of A WAY OUT at the Platform Gallery. A WAY OUT is a dual exhibition featuring works by Free Space and Baltimore Youth Arts.
2015 Community Fellow Dave Eassa started Free Space, which brings visual art, poetry Frand other forms of creative expression into prisons. Using a broad approach that includes artistic exercises and investigation into both historical and contemporary art, the program aims to provide participants the tools needed for artistic self-expression and to improve their quality of life behind bars.
Free Space began working weekly at the Maryland Correctional Institution in Jessup in January 2015 and in November 2015 expanded to the Maryland Correctional Institution for Women and Dorsey Run Correctional Facility.
The exhibit runs from April 30-May 21st at the Platform Gallery in Baltimore.
Also this weekend, Pathways to Homeownership, a video project collaboration by 2014 OSI Fellow Agatha So, videographer Victor Pineda, and 5 of Baltimore’s Latino families, will be featured in the Lightstruck Film Festival. So works with the Southeast Community Development Corporation to help identify alternative lending processes that would provide undocumented, tax-paying families in Southeast Baltimore the opportunity to buy a home.
