OSI Justice Fund grantee “On the Watch,” is a year-long newsroom series focusing on police accountability and community police relations that airs on Baltimore National Public Radio affiliate WYPR. This weekend, NPR aired a compilation of the work WYPR’s Mary Rose Madden has been doing about police and community relations for “On the Watch” on All Things Considered. Also mentioned in the broadcast is the organization Leaders of a Beautiful Struggle, part of Baltimore United for Change (BUC), an OSI-funded coalition of organizations and activists working for social justice in Baltimore.

OSI has also learned that Mary Rose and “On the Watch” will appear on Reveal, a nationally syndicated investigative journalism show in September 2016.
In May 2015, as a response to the death of Freddie Gray and subsequent uprising, OSI launched the Baltimore Justice Fund, which is supporting 13 projects focused on improving police accountability and police-community relationships, reducing the number of Baltimoreans caught up in the criminal justice system, and to engaging Marylanders, especially young people, in advocacy for programs and policies to increase opportunity and racial justice.
