The Fund for Educational Excellence, an OSI grantee that works to support student achievement in city schools, is asking for nominations for its Heart of the School Awards, which will recognize school principals.
Specifically, the Heart of the School Principals are looking to “recognize exceptional leaders who have demonstrated exemplary innovation, execution, and leadership, building strong school cultures” and create schools where:
- Students, staff, parents and the community feel valued and engaged
- Students and staff can achieve at their highest potential
- There are high expectations for student achievement and success
- Students, staff, parents and the community feel invited, safe, and secure
- Students, staff, parents and the community are involved in creating and fostering a shared vision for the school
- Students and staff are provided with effective enrichment and support

OSI-Baltimore has worked with the Fund for Educational Excellence to create four High Value High Schools – engaging, supportive and accelerated high school options in Baltimore City that would significantly increase graduation rates and post-secondary success, particularly for African-American male students. With the opening of Bard High School Early College and YouthBuild of Ben Franklin High School, all four High Value High Schools are officially up and running as of August 31, 2015. By providing flexible scheduling, job-embedded learning, accelerated credit accumulation, credit recovery and other features, High Value High Schools are designed to respond to the needs and goals of high schools students.
