Join the Center for Innovation in Urban Education for a screening of Second Chances, a documentary created by Wide Angle Youth Media. Wide Angle Youth Media provides Baltimore youth with media education to tell their own stories and become engaged with their communities.
Second Chances explores the various methods Maryland educators are using to reduce the numbers of out of school suspensions such as more involved methods of conflict resolution, a way to reflect on the behaviors that lead to suspension or by implementing restorative practices. The screening will be followed by a discussion panel.
Panelists include:
- Rosalind Pkpaidem, M.A., a teacher for Baltimore City Public Schools, and graduate of Loyola’s Curriculum
- Dante Detablan, executive director of the Ben Franklin Center for Community Schools
- Laurell Glen, senior at Digital Harbor High School and Wide Angle Youth Media intern
- Rob Helfenbein, Ph. D., associate dean of the Loyola University Maryland School of Education
- Ali Smith, co-founder and executive director of Holistic Life Foundation, Inc.
- Karen Webber-Ndour, J.D., executive director of the Office of Student Supply and Safety for Baltimore City Public Schools
