Baltimore is the only city in the country where graduation rates of young black males have increased. And, both dropout rates and suspensions of these young men have dropped by more than half.
Our experts at OSI-Baltimore made the connection early on that overly punitive disciplinary policies and a lack of focus on school attendance were holding kids back, so they partnered with City Schools to rewrite policy and promote attendance—delivering these results in Baltimore.
Our work is paying off. More students in school means more students graduating and finding jobs, not dropping out or getting into trouble. As Baltimore’s workforce gains the education and skills to compete, our communities get healthier and safer. That’s good for everyone.
