OSI would like to highlight some of the events and projects the Community Fellows are hosting or facilitating this season:
This Sunday, November 22, Building Our Nations Daughters, Inc (BOND), the organization founded by Ateira Griffin (2020) will be providing no-contact delivery of full Thanksgiving baskets to single-parent families in need in Baltimore City to ensure single-parent families can focus on being together and connecting as a family while removing the pressure of affording a Thanksgiving meal. This effort is part of their 6th Annual Thanksgiving Basket Drive. More information, including how to donate time, services, and non-perishable goods, can be found here.
Jackie Bello Neumann (2017), co-founder of Dent Education, is offering free social-emotional coaching sessions for educators experiencing fatigue, stress, or burnout. Eric Jackson’s (2017) Black Yield Institute will be hosting a special Cherry Hill Pop-Up Market this Sat, Nov 21 from 1 PM-5 PM at the Cherry Hill Shopping Center (646 Cherry Hill Rd, Baltimore, MD 21225). More information can be found here.
Menes Yahudah (2015) will be participating in Giving Tuesday on December 1. All proceeds will go to helping sponsor students for his organization, Urban Foli Djembe Orchestra Performing Arts Inc. (Urban Foli) is a non-profit musical theater performance group that expresses traditional African drumming and dance bridged with contemporary sound and movements in support of all peoples in the community. On November 24 and 25, volunteers with Be a Chef for a Day Community Kitchen, started by 2020 Community Fellow Monica Lapenta, will help distribute 1000 Thanksgiving meals in addition to the regular hot dinners the organization typically delivers to those in need. Rich in Music: Refugee-Immigrant Connection and Healing, the organization founded by Amy Bliss Tenney (2017), along with Asylee Women Enterprise, will be hosting a Virtual Winter Concert on December 5 at 7 p.m. The event will feature Hope Choir of Nations, along with other music and dance offerings.
