Over the last few days, five OSI-Baltimore Community Fellows working on projects related to the criminal justice system joined Soros Justice Fellows from around the country in Atlanta to share knowledge and develop connections as part of the annual Soros Justice Fellowships Conference. The Fellows, left to the right in the above photo, are Jennay Ghowrwal (2018), Jacqueline Robarge (2002), Munib Lohrasbi (2017), Aarti Sidhu (2018), and Gianna Rodriguez (2016).
On Sunday, the group traveled to Montgomery, Alabama to see the National Memorial for Peace and Justice and the National Legacy Museum, both of which opened last year thanks to the relentless efforts of Bryan Stevenson, a former member of Open Society-U.S.’s Advisory Board. On Monday, speakers included Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams, Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms, and criminal justice reform advocate Yusef Salaam, a member of the Central Park Five.
On Tuesday, Lohrasbi led a session on Combating Solitary Confinement and Restrictive Housing and Ghowrwal led one on The Criminal Justice System as a Public Health Threat.
