Now that Mayor Catherine Pugh has decided to resign, Baltimore can focus on the important issues facing its residents. Open Society Institute-Baltimore wishes Mayor Pugh well and thanks her for her years of service to Baltimore City.
We appreciate the steady presence of Mayor Ex Officio Bernard “Jack” Young throughout this ordeal. We also appreciate the City Council for urging Mayor Pugh to put the city first in her decision and its proactive thinking on how to amend the City Charter to create more effective local government.
The people of Baltimore City seek and deserve leadership that is effective, transparent, and accountable to its residents. OSI-Baltimore looks forward to supporting an election process in which the voices and priorities of Baltimore residents are paramount.
Our city’s strength is its people. Throughout our city, people work every day to educate children, to create safe and welcoming communities, and to help those in need. OSI-Baltimore is hopeful that this transition represents an opportunity to elect new leadership that will fully support and build on the strength of its people so that not only Baltimore’s image will improve, but its reality as well.
