About 20 OSI Community Fellows, including most of the 2018 cohort gathered at Carrie Murray Nature Center to hear updates from three Fellows, to share challenges, to offer feedback, and to discuss potential collaborations.
Eric Fishel, a 2018 Fellow, talked about his project, Baltimore Foodparks, through which he works to improve vacant lots, conduct scientific research, and help conserve Baltimore’s greenspace and wildlife all while educating and engaging communities.
Jackie Bello, a 2017 Fellow, talked about her work establishing and expanding Dent Education, which teaches creative problem solving through “design thinking,” prototyping and entrepreneurship to at-risk city youth.
Shelley Halstead, another 2018 Fellow, talked about the progress of Black Women Build, which recently acquired five vacant homes and will soon begin working directly with women who will help renovate them, learning carpentry skills, and take ownership, building wealth.
