This week, NBC Nightly News featured longtime OSI-Baltimore partner Holistic Life Foundation (HLF) and its successful efforts to bring mindfulness and meditation to Baltimore City Schools, helping to address trauma and reduce suspensions and school absences.

Open Society’s Karen Webber initiated OSI’s support for HLF seven years ago, as part of her strategy to introduce restorative practices into Baltimore City Schools. A 2020 report by Johns Hopkins and the University of Maryland found that the strategy had resulted in major drops in suspensions, improved schools climates, and improved relationships between students and teachers.
