Last week, Maryland’s legislation concluded after passing several major pieces of legislation, including many supported by grantees of OSI-Baltimore and the Open Society Policy Center, Open Society Foundations’ advocacy organization.
The legislative wrap-up from the OSI-supported People’s Commission to Decriminalize Maryland details significant new legislation in the areas of youth justice and the decriminalization of poverty. The wrap-up from Jews United for Justice notes the passage of landmark paid family and medical leave legislation, which will become law after the General Assemble overrode Governor Hogan’s veto, and several other key bills. Baltimore Harm Reduction Coalition sent an email with updates on its legislative agenda, noting that a bill to decriminalize drug paraphernalia did not pass, but the Statewide Targeted Overdose Prevention (STOP) Act of 2022 and other bills did.
