Black Women Build Baltimore (BWBB), founded by 2018 OSI Community Fellow Shelley Halstead, recently hosted its second Open House, with visitors from the community, including city officials and donors. The organization trains Black women in carpentry, electrical, and plumbing and helps trainees through the process to eventually own the houses they work on. BWBB now has seven completed seven houses on Etting Street, welcomed three new homeowners, and added new headquarters.
The organization also received the “Smart Growth Excellence Award” from Preservation Maryland as well as the 2021 Maryland Department of Planning’s “Sustainable Growth Award.”
