On Tuesday, Out for Justice, a member-led group advocating for the rights of people impacted by the criminal justice system, held the first event in its two-part “Know your Rights” series about housing and employment laws. The second event will take place on Sept. 15th. Register here.
Out for Justice has been an OSI grantee and partner for several years. In 2020, OSI provided rapid response funding to Out for Justice to support formerly incarcerated people who were among those most at risk from COVID and its economic impact.
In a Facebook post, OFJ Executive Director Nicole Mundell writes, “With the help of Open Society Institute-Baltimore rapid response Covid funding, we embarked on a year-long pilot that allowed us to cover an eight-bedroom house that housed (10) ten women. The funding supported rent, BGE, Food, weekly dinner, cleaning service, furniture, etc., for six months and connected them to wrap-around support to allow these women a stress-free environment while they work on rebuilding their life.”
In the same post, Mundell wriotes that the two-part series is designed to help community members “navigate systems that aren’t designed for them to succeed.”
