Last night, Mayor Brandon Scott swore in six members of the newly-formed Local Control Advisory Board, which will study the proposed transition of the Baltimore Police Department from state to local control.
Among the appointees are four members of the OSI-supported Coalition for Justice, Safety, and Jobs, including Ray Kelly, executive director of the Citizen’s Policing Project: Tre Murphy, cofounder of Organizing Black; Lydia Walther-Rodriguez, Baltimore Regional Director for CASA; and Caylin Young, the Director of Public Policy at the ACLU of Maryland, along with Ashiah Parker, executive director of OSI grantee the No Boundaries Coalition, and Mark Washington, Executive Director at Coldstream Homestead Montebello Community Corporation.
“Local control will place our city in a better position to continue advocating and striving for much needed police reform as we will be able to hold accountable to local leaders and municipality we democratically elected into office,” said Walther-Rodriguez.
