Last week, WJZ featured 2019 Community Fellow Marvin Hayes and his organization, the Baltimore Compost Collective. Located in the Brooklyn-Curtis Bay area of South Baltimore, the Baltimore Compost Collective aims to serve a community that otherwise may not be able to get fresh vegetables. Hayes and his crew of volunteers pick up food waste from surrounding neighborhoods like Federal Hill, Mount Washington, Riverside, and Locust Point and turn it in to compost. He calls it “black gold,” and says, “when you have healthy soil you have healthy vegetables.”
