This week, 2019 OSI Community Fellow Marvin Hayes was featured in the Guardian’s special reporting series, “America’s dirty divide” (supported by Open Society Foundations), a series that examines the country’s environmental inequalities, along with other environmental justice advocates who are working to shut down the Bresco waste incinerator in South Baltimore.
In the video, Hayes, who runs the Baltimore Compost Collective, and other activists talk about the harmful effects of trash incineration. “My goal is to educate people about the benefits of composting, because that’s the alternative to trash incineration.” (See Marvin starting at the 4:10 mark).
Baltimore Compost Collective is based at the Filbert Street Garden, founded by 2011 OSI Community Fellow Jason Reed.
