Today at 1pm, the State Senate Finance Committee holds a hearing for Senate Bill 299, which expands on Baltimore City’s Elijah Cummings Healing City Act, which mandated trauma-informed care training for employees of city agencies, to apply to state agencies as well.
The bill, sponsored by Senator Jill Carter (D-41), establishes “the Commission on Trauma-Informed Care to coordinate a statewide initiative to prioritize the trauma-responsive and trauma-informed delivery of State services that impact children, youth, families, and older adults; requiring the Commission to submit its findings annually to the Governor and the General Assembly by June 30; requiring certain State agencies to designate two staff members to participate in a formal course in trauma-informed care each year and work with other agency designees in work sessions; etc.”
The House of Delegates version of the bill, HB 548, sponsored by Del, Robbyn Lewis (D, 46), was heard in the House Health and Government Operations Committee earlier this week.
