This week, Open Society Institute-Baltimore welcomed a delegation of professors, program directors, program officers, and project coordinators from Mexico who were looking to learn more about OSI’s approach to addressing the needs of underserved and at-risk youth in a visit sponsored by the U.S. Department of State.
Karen Webber, director of OSI’s Education and Youth Development program discussion OSI’s work to transform Baltimore City Schools into a restorative district and to establish the Re-Engagement Center. She introduced Ross Robinson from OSI grantee Holistic Life Foundation, which is introducing Baltimore students to mindfulness, and showed a video about the group’s work in Robert W. Coleman Elementary.
Robinson led delegation members in a guided meditation to demonstrate the work Holistic Life does in schools and talked about the way mindfulness help him cope with stress when he was going to Baltimore City Public Schools.
