This week, Baltimore City Board of School Commissioners unanimously passed a policy that will allow trans students to use their preferred pronouns, access the restrooms that align with their gender, and update school records to reflect their gender.
In March the Baltimore City Council unanimously passed a resolution calling on Baltimore City Public Schools to adopt the policy, known as Policy JBB.
Young people attended the school board meeting where commissioners voted on the policy, many holding signs designed and printed by Wide Angle Youth Media with OSI support.
Jabari Lyles, the LGBTQ affairs liaison for the mayor’s office and former executive director of OSI-supported GLSEN Maryland who spoke to OSI’s Leadership Council in February, helped draft the resolution.
