Last night, 150 Baltimore City Schools students and their chaperones attended the Washington, D.C. stop on the book tour for Michelle Obama’s recently released memoir, “Becoming.” As the Baltimore Sun describes, Obama was able to connect with the students thanks to OSI-Baltimore Advisory Board member Alicia Wilson, who met Obama last year and talked about her work with the College Bound Foundation, a local nonprofit that provides support and counseling to students who want to attend college.
At the event, Wilson and several of the students she accompanied to event were asked to come on stage and describe who they were becoming. “I am becoming a woman who finds light in the darkest places, a woman who finds hope in the middle of struggle and a woman who embraces the challenges God puts before me and sees the opportunity,” Wilson said.
