Last night, Mayor Catherine Pugh joined Catalina Rodriguez-Lima (above right), director of the Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs (MIMA) and a member of OSI-Baltimore’s Leadership Council, at the Southeast Anchor Library for a public forum to discuss Safe City Baltimore, the immigrant legal defense funded founded in collaboration between the city and OSI.
OSI and MIMA worked together to establish the Safe City initiative to protect local immigrants whose due process right were threatened by harsh federal immigration enforcement.
The mayor pledged to do everything she can to continue making Baltimore a welcoming city for immigrants, including supporting the Safe City Baltimore initiative, supporting residents with temporary protected status (TPS), and working with the police department to recognize Catholic Church-issued IDs for undocumented immigrants. In addition to hearing from the mayor, community members heard updates from many of the grantees doing the on-the-ground work of the initiative.
