This week Morgan State University Professor and 2012 OSI Community Fellow Lawrence Brown launches the Baltimore Equity Toolkit and Power Mapping website. The Powermap, an analytical tool that can be used to both understand the impact of redlining and change the trajectory of redlined communities, was originally developed by Brown in 2016-2017 with the help of students in his Community Needs and Solutions course at Morgan State.
The project is a collaboration between the University of Baltimore School of Law’s Community Development Clinic and Morgan State University’s Department of Public Health Community Need and Solutions Course.
Brown, who will be honored as a “Bold Thinker” at OSI’s upcoming 20th anniversary event, used his 2012 fellowship to develop “You’re the Quarterback: Gameplan for Life,” which aimed to strengthen the families of men with children by focusing on barriers to employment, increasing health insurance coverage, and providing support services.
