Recently, the United States District Court for the District of Maryland ruled in favor of a transgender student in a suit filed by OSI-supported FreeState Justice, the ACLU, and the ACLU of Maryland.
The court ruled that students’ right to use the restroom and locker rooms that correspond with their gender identity is protected by federal law.
FreeState Justice is a legal advocacy organization that seeks to improve the lives of low-income lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (“LGBTQ”) Marylanders.
OSI’s Education and Youth Development program supported FreeState Justice (then called FreeState Legal) to help the organization improve conditions for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning (LGBTQ) youth in Maryland with a particular goal of making schools safe spaces for LGBTQ youth.
