WYPR’s On the Record recently wrapped up its profiles of the 2017 Community Fellows cohort with segments on Eric Jackson, Jackie Bello, and Alex Long.
Eric Jackson, working through the Black Yield Institute, is creating the “Building Black Land and Food Sovereignty Practice” in the Cherry Hill and Poppleton neighborhoods. He’ll organize community-driven cooperative food ventures to create access to nutritious, affordable foods.
Jackie Bello’s “Bet on Baltimore” is an internship program co-created with Dent Education that will teach creative problem solving through “design thinking,” prototyping and entrepreneurship to city at-risk youth.
Alex Long’s program, “McElderry Youth Redemption Boxing Program” intends to show kids how to meditate, have fun, and blow off steam through boxing.
