Tonight, 36 Baltimore City students participating in the Baltimore Young Writers’ Summer Studio will gather at the Impact Hub to interview politicians, artists, writers, entrepreneurs, and others to write profiles that will be published in a September issue of City Paper.
The Summer Studio is a program of Writers in Baltimore Schools, a project started by 2008 OSI Community Fellow Patrice Hutton.
At their week-long sleep-away writing camp in August, students will work with City Paper Editor Brandon Soderberg and Assistant Editor Lisa Snowden McCray to turn these interviews into publishable profiles.
Hutton founded Writers in Baltimore Schools to offer literary development classes to low-income public school students. To date, the program has worked with more than 600 young writers in Baltimore City. Learn more about Hutton’s project in our Impact Series, Notebooks Full of Beautiful Ideas.
