This week, WBAL aired a segment on the youth violence prevention program run by Unified Efforts, the program started by 2016 OSI-Baltimore Community Fellow, Debbie Ramsey. The summer program, which was announced in early June, provides free summer activities for West Baltimore/Penn North students, including free indoor swimming lessons, art, music, introduction to aviation and aerospace museum visits, nature center visit, free dental screenings, golf, soccer among other offerings. In this video, the students learn how to cook healthy recipes.
As part of her fellowship, Ramsey, who is a retired police officer, established the Penn North Violence Prevention Youth Center in West Baltimore to formalize and expand the free violence prevention programs to area schools she had been doing since she left the force in 1994.
