The 2016 OSI-Baltimore Community Fellows cohort gathered at Paul Laurence Dunbar High School this morning to learn from the experiences of Fellows Isa Olufemi and Katie Miller.
Olufemi, who uses running with students in the Poets Pride Run Club as a vehicle for personal growth, community-building, and college prep, talked about his experiences working with school officials and increasing capacity, and the challenges of trying to make the program self-sustaining.
Miller, who works with CASA to increase engagement and participation in initiatives on food access and food justice initiative among Baltimore’s Latino immigrant community as the Latino Food Alliance, talked about how her Fellowship has evolved with the changing priorities of the city’s immigrant communities.
In April, OSI-Baltimore founded the Safe City Baltimore immigrant education and defense fund to support local communities threatened by recent executive orders.
